RARE piece. The Iron Cross of 1870 was a Prussian military decoration awarded for bravery and leadership during the Franco-Prussian War. Introduced by King Wilhelm I, it features a black iron cross with a silver frame, crowned “W” in the center, and the year “1870” at the bottom. It was awarded in two classes: 2nd Class on a chest ribbon, and 1st Class pinned to the uniform for distinguished recipients. The black-and-white ribbon reflects Prussia’s national colors. This historic medal became the template for later Iron Crosses in World War I and II, symbolizing courage and military achievement.
